DETROIT – Detroit City FC came back to shock the MLS Houston Dynamo and advance to the round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup.

DCFC fell behind 2-0 in the first 35 minutes before tying the game in the 75th minute.

They fell behind 3-2 just minutes after the equalizer, but DCFC scored in the 84th minute to force extra time.

Neither team scored in the extra 30 minutes, so the game went to penalty kicks. DCFC ultimately came out on top 10-9 in 11 rounds of penalty kicks.

In the 11th round, it was goalie Carlos Saldaña who scored a goal of his own to seal the victory.

This is the first time DCFC has made the round of 16 in the Open Cup.

The win was DCFC’s second against an MLS team -- they also defeated the Columbus Crew in 2022.

DCFC will play the winner of Indy Eleven and San Antonio FC on May 21 or May 22.
